Hi

I would like to know if you can integrate the announcement module with a SQL Database.

I have followed the tutorial for the announcement module, it doesnt mention anyting there. I am aware of linking to external resources(eg websites) and linking another page on your site etc.

What im trying to achieve is, all the news articles are stored on the database and the module should link to that database?

If anyone knows if this can be done and how, i would be very grateful

The announcements module is integrated with the SQL database in the sense that the announcements themselves are stored in the database.

If you have news articles stored in the database, you can certainly refer to them in announcements, but you do have to display them. I would suggest that you put links to the displayed articles in your announcements.

Maybe, too, I'm not understanding what you want to do. If you want to have a library of news articles and also display a list of articles, perhaps with abstracts and thumbnail images on which you can click to view the articles, then I'd recommend that you take a look at Ventrian's News Articles module. For a step up (both in price and features) I'd recommend Engage Publish from Engage Software. I've used both of those modules and like both of them. There is also a module from DNNMasters (I think that's the name), but I haven't used it.

So, in summary, tell us in a bit more detail what you want to do, and perhaps the recommendations change.

The problem is i would like to edit the announcements module to make it work for my needs is this possible??

Also i am running a local installation using Visual Studio's own dev server, where are the articles stored, you say on the database, can you point me in the right direction?

What im trying to do (hopefully this will clear it up). I need to have a module on the Home page for news articles. The module should show an abstract of a news article, the user can click on this abstract to bring up the whole article. The "administrator" can log in to change the news articles shown on the home page.

Hope this explains it a little bit better.

Any help would be appreciated.

Ventrian's News Articles module will do exactly what you describe. The news articles themselves will be stored in the database in a table created and managed by the News Articles module.

Ive just subscribed to the Ventrian site and paid a fee for the silver membership.

Ive logged in but there are no downloads in the downloads section? I have mailed support, but is there a delay or something?

You have to wait a little while for the transaction to get processed, before you are given acces to the downloads.
