Have you considered getting together with Kelly Ford of Dnndev and creating a series of tutorials for Xmod, I am sure many people would appreciate it. 

Xmod is very flexible and I understand it could be used for almost anything, but to utilise Xmod to it's full capacity requires quite a bit of learning and configuration.

I know Xmod ships with very good and extensive .pdf and .chm help files and so far they have a couple of helpful video tutorials but this module needs more.

I am sure Kelly has good intentions to add more video's but I don't know for certain. But I presume he has little time to dedicate to this task, as only two video's produced in the life of xmod indicate.

Yes, videos would be a great help.

I have been on the fence for quite some time regarding the purchase of XMOD.

The examples seemed to be relatively static over the years.

I wouldn't really be interested in a tutorial that accomplishes the obvious things they have shown but would be interested in a tutorial geared toward a real DNN limitation or use.

A classifieds or intersting CMS module application for example.

And anything in a tutorial that demonstrates why this is more than a standard forms package.
Also anything that demonstrated working with existing data on the site.

For example pulling info to display calendar or blog data in a new way.


This may be out of the scope of this site but would be cool .

I´m new to dnn so I have to understand this CMS system firts, but when I do(with dnncreative tutorials ofcourse) I am very curious and exited about the xmod module and its functions. Xmod tutorial video´s will be nice

B.t.w the Dnn tutorials form Creative DNN are great and realy helpful, tnhx for that! ;)

the xmod videos would make this great site even better!

No one has time to make them but we all wish someone did!

I would definately take advantage of Xmod tutorial videos. Even if DNNDEV did put together a series of videos, I doubt they would be the quality of those found on DNN Creative.

I would have really appreciated a tutorial series on Xmod. I bought the mod because I wanted to create lead capture forms for an insurance website. Xmod is supposed to make it "easier". After wasting 10 hours trying to figure out how to 'code' my forms and templates, I am at a loss as to how Xmod is 'better' than just coding from scratch. Some fundimental how to videos would be greatly appreciated my many others I am sure.

Modules like Xmod presumable are "easier" because they separate you from some of the nitty-gritty details of interacting with the various layers of DotNetNuke.

On the other hand, that doesn't say that they don't have a substantial learning curve.  They do.

If you are more interested in forms, something like that Datasprings module reviewed in the last couple of issues might be more helpful.

ok I'm going to add it to the list as I have received a few enquires for XMOD tutorials. In the past I have not covered 3rd party premium modules, but you all seem to have enjoyed the tutorials with datasprings modules, so it is something I am implementing now for the future.

So, give me a couple of issues to get to grips with XMOD as I have not used it since DNNv2 and I suspect a lot has changed since then! and I will create a tutorial for you all,

Just wanted to add my 2 cents as a DNN Creative devotee.  XMod would be a great addition to the tutorials. 

XMod can do a lot, and is pretty straight forward.  But it has just enough quirks that a few tutorials would really benefit the community at large.

Without XMod, DNN doesn't compare very well to CMS platforms like Joomla or Drupal.  But with XMod, it holds its own.

My 2 cents...XMod videos would be great! I've used XMod to create a pretty nice feedback form (customized for our site) that was fairly easy...but I've been wanting to create something more elaborate using a data input form...for example...a jobs module..where you can post jobs people want filled and have most of the usual info...when the job was posted...if it has a closing date...etc...just haven't had time to work with it further.

I have spent the last month working with XMOD and trying to get to it's power. My impression so far is that yes it's a great addition. I haven't used any other type of module similar to it but here are my likes and dislies. Overall though to keep in the thread here. Yes videos would be great. Kelly does a great job trying to support users but it seems to me he's very busy working on things. Videos would be great. In fact I might even make some and post them as well

Being able to build your own datamanager - lets you use XMOD features and plug your own data into the background. For example I have it hooked into web services and have built a generic SQL server manager so there is no need for stored procedures for updating and talking to your SQL tables. Hence I can build a form for any sql table by jsut telling the form which table it uses

Ease for Simple Modules - Very simple to medium complex stuff you can use the xmod features to extract yourself from the nitty gritty of design

Can resort to totally manual - if needs be you can code everything and get what you need

XMOD offers some nice form builder tools for buidling your XMOD forms. However i often found myself not being able to use them as there was usually something i needed to do which the builders couldn't do. Hence i had to resort to free format coding.

Overall though it seems like a great tool to me

I heard recently about the new XMOD Pro.
This looks like the wave of the future.
I think I can do some amazing things with this module

If videos were to come out for XMOD, I would definitely consider focusing on this one.

If there are XMod videos planned I would be most interested in your comparison of XMod vs. OWS, especially with XMod pro now available. Being a past customer of XMod I felt the need to expand beyond it's capabilities and OWS seems to fit.
