Hello All

I want to test followings on my Localhost. I would Appreciate your guidence.

1. When a new user registers, Send an Email to the new user.
2. I have setup the Store Module on LocalHost. When a user submits a purchase order I want an Email sent to the user and to the Admin.
3. Want to pay (real) for the Purchase using PayPal So that I could go and check the Paypal account to see change on the account balance.

1. This is the default behavior for DotNetNuke. You have to configure the SMPT server on the Host Settings page first. There is a test button there to make it work.

2. I can't answer your questions about the store, as I haven't used it. I just installed it on a test system, and find that it's a bit complicated. I see that there is no manual at the DotNetNuke site, but I did find that there is some discussion about configuring the module in the forum. You might get some more help at the DotNetNuke forum for the Store Module.

1) - Check:How to set up email in DotNetNuke

2) -  I also have not used the store module yet so can't provide any additional information. - but after configuring (1) any e-mails created by the store module you should receive.

I am also having trouble here. I've followed Lee's video but when it comes to entering the SMTP server, it's not clear what I should enter as am on a localhost. Googling says enter 'localhost' and choose anonymous, but the test still fails. Also, what Host Email address should I put in? Can I use any of my web email addresses/SMTP settings for this until I upload the site to a web server? Any help appreciated. If it can't be done on localhost, then fair enough. Cheers Tim

DotNetNuke doesn't actually send email, but uses an SMTP server to send the mail.  DotNetNuke sends messages to the SMTP server, but it is the SMTP server that delivers the mail.

You can use any SMTP server to which you connect.  Chances are, you don't have an SMTP server on your local computer.  Often, you can use your existing email system's SMTP server, provided that it will accept and send mail from an third-party site = your DotNetNuke installation.

If you have a gmail account, it's fairly easy:

SMTP Server:  smtp.gmail.com

Use Basic authentication and check the SSL box.

Username:  your gmail address, i.e. myname@gmail.com

Password:  your email password.

You will want to have the host email address set to an address at which you can receive email.  The Test email will be sent to that address.
