I'm designing a site where the navigation uses "tabs" -- the backgrounds consist of a "left" graphic, a "right" graphic and a "liquid" center graphic. I'm using the housemenu module skin object to implement.

Does anyone know if I can manipulate housemenu so that I can achieve this? Has anyone done anything more complex than just one background graphic?

Thank you,

Lisa

Yes it will be possible, but bear in mind that the HouseMenu creates an un-ordered list, so it will be just like creating a mneu for a standard site that produces an unordered list.

I have created one which used a couple of images and I added an extra div and a h3 tag around the menu to create rounded corners and attached background images to the div and h3 tag - You can have a look at www.skinningtoolkit.com. - So it should be possible. - I have also just created a horizontal menu for a new project which sounds similar to what you describe here. - It generally involves quite a bit of fiddling! Good luck,

Ok --- nice solution. I've wrapped tags inside an LI tag before but this looks like it will do the trick I'll test it tomorrow! THANK YOU!!! Lisa

Oh ok -- I took a look. That's not quite what i was thinking...i was thinking each tab i.e.:

MENU ITEM A | MENU ITEM B | MENU ITEM C

would be "tabs" -- with a "tablike" image on each tab's left and right...
I can't seem to find a way to manipulate the code to do this.

Ah right, I haven't done that before. - The horizontal one I've just done looks like images for the tabs but it's just css code and then on either side the menu is an image which stretches with the width of the page. - Could be a hard one, I would start by viewing the source code of the page with the Housemenu on with no CSS and have a look to see if there are any extra elements you can attach graphics to. - The HouseMenu does create a separate id for each menu item which you could attach graphics to, but this could get pretty messy and you would have to create special CSS code for each menu tab.
