It's a shame really. They were (I think) the only UK based hosting provider offering DNN.

They launched a windows package with DNN as a no-cost extra. I already had a Linux reseller account and this looked a good idea.
Initially everything looked pretty good. Set-up was very good and initially support was OK but progressively got worse. I was told at one time that they did not support DNN and progressively more probelms seemed to occur with sites. DNN is not offered as an option now. Enough said?

I had 6 sites hosted and am moving them away.

Currently using Reseller Choice which is working out fine - and a lot cheaper than Pipex.

ps Not everything is bad with Pipex. My Linux reseller account works like a dream and 123-reg is first class for domain names

     Hi all,

I thought I'd add my penny's worth. The most frustrating thing about Pipex is that they have failed to integrate all the various businesses they have bought up (try and count the number of hosting companies with the Pipex logo at the bottom) into a cohesive whole! More about that later.

We contacted Webfusion (yes Pipex) about DNN hosting with a long list of questions as we were interested in their Reseller Hosting account. Didn't really get a clear answer until we pressed the sales peep and he went away to check with a collegue (read someone who have been there more than five minutes).

What he eventually came back with was very very interesting. Webfusion did NOT support DNN on Reseller accounts and they recommended either VPS (Virtual Personal Servers) or Dedicted Servers.

We took their advice (G*d help us) and took a VPS account. The VPS account gave root access and allowed you to install software (a scarey thought for some!). Eventually I found out that using the installed Plesk software that it was possible install a DNN v3 installation - and it worked. However, of course I wanted a v4.4.1 DNN installation (this is pre-v4.5.1). Using root access I was able to upgrade the v3 installation to v4.4.1. I've since done vanilla DNN installs for v4.4.1, v4.5.0 and v4.5.1. So a VPS or Dedicated server is one way to go but a little expensive if you just need one portal or ionstallation.

I plan a post on DNN Install forum of my findings about DNN and Plesk as there is a dearth of information out there on how to do it - and yes the standard DNN installation instructions are great but they don't work on Domains installed by Plesk!

My major gripe about Pipex (Webfusion) is that they stole my money! They made me register a new domain (nice and cheap but I didn't really need it) when I ordered the VPS. Now that domain is unmanagable as it has fallen between the cracks of two Pipex companies Webfusin and 123-Reg who both claim I need to speak to the other company to access the new domain control panel!
