Is there any tool/module that is out there that will let me email a link to a file (that is secured in a secured folder) but then prompt the user to login when they click on a file and take them right to the document the way a link to a tab will prompt you to login and then take you right to the tab? It seems like the core DNN stuff either shows you a file cannot be found error or an access denied error so we cant really provide direct links in emails.

It's probably easier to put links to the protected files on a protected page. Then, email the link to the protected page. This will generate a login after which they can click the appropriate links.

If there are a lot of files, you may find it easier to use the Repository or Documents module. It's also possible to put the File Manager on a page. Logged in user will see only what their security roles allow them to see.

If you still want to give them the direct link, you will have to create an "http handler" that intercepts the error and redirects them to login. I've never done that personally, but I had it done for a particular website. If you'd like, I could look up the details as my memory is quite fuzzy about it.

I have the documents module working on a page that lets you see and upload what they want to upload. Not a big fan of the repository module from what I have seen so far but I could be missing something. How do you add the File Manager to a page? Assuming we have the security all set up properly, that might work

The FileManager module will be available to use just as any other core module in the admin control panel. You need to be using DNN 5.x for this feature.

This may be useful:
