I'm researching a new webhosting company and I have read some of the reviews thru this thread but I noticed that Applied Innovations has not been mentioned. Does anyone have any opinion on them one way or another?

Hopefully they did and the experience was good, but if not let me know personally. Santiago, are you looking to go with one of the high availability Hyper-V VPS servers (Server 2008) or the virtuozzo solution (Server 2003)? We'll be migrating many of the Virtuozzo machines to Hyper-V in Q2. Send an email to sales@appliedi.net when you're ready, mention I saw your posting and recommended you do that and we'll get you a free month to try things out. Jess

Jess, so you guys aren't going to be offering the three price points you currently have with the 2003 servers for VPS? There is a steep difference especially if you're just starting out trying to get new customers.

Santiago, we're going to be offering several more options actually just we'll be migrating those machines from Virtuozzo to Hyper-V and then sweetening those plans up a bit (they're dated). Jess

That sounds sweet! Do you have an ETA when you'll have that all ready to go? I'm thinking I might as well wait to set up on the new plan structure no?
I do have a question though. If I'm going to be hosting several domains from this VPS do I need to install a DNS Server or do you have something that I can plug into to offer several domains? IPs don't have to be static except shopping carts for the SSL I guess.

Santiago, you might want to email me at jcoburn at appliedi.net. You should load a control panel on your server if you plan to host many domains, it will simplify management and reduce errors. It will consume resources though and limit what all you can load on your VPS. You don't have to use DNS servers on the VPS servers but you can if you wish. We do provide DNS only accounts that tie into our shared infrastructure and you can leverage other shared resources like mail servers and sql servers if you like. Today you would have to use a seperate interface to manage this but we have many clients doing this without issue.

Regarding IP addresses all addresses are static and shouldn't ever need to change. However, you will need a unique IP address if you plan to run an SSL cert on a server. You would need dedicated IP addresses for each DNS server if you plan to run your own DNS servers but I wouldn't. I would try to run just web on the VPS. Remember the real constraints in a VPS are memory and diskspace. CPU is rarely a problem with today's processors. You'll want to try to run as little as possible on your VPS to keep resources free for your websites so they load as quickly as possible.

    Jess
