GoDaddy is a great hosting provider. However, not the best for DNN. With their shared hosting packages you are not able to install DNN into your root folder due to folder permission related to security. You must create a virtual directory first, therefore you if you intended to use your DNN app as your home page a redirect is required unless you dont mind the URL with the trailing folder. They do offer DNN as a "value applicatoin" with their hosting packages and can be installed from their control panel. Also, I believe that if you used the value application install option, the virtual directory that is created by default is not accessable via FTP preventing you from accessing the DNN app files.
I believe that you can avoid all of this hassle, cough up the cash and pay for a dedicated hosting package allowing you full control over the hosting server.

i have had a dedicated server plan with godaddy.com. i am not at all happy with them. the site is extremely slow and it appears that their HDD has a problem. this was indicated by the perf counters reading 100% disk time all the time and disk queue length more than 2 all the time.. there is no one to assist you with diagnosing the problem and i had to spend countless hours figuring out what went wrong. now i have to switch HDD i think and they wouldn't even support me with backup. bad experience. regards abhishek

     I have 5 domain names for different purpose but Godaddy deluxe plan allow to install only 2 DNNs (2 SQL Database) then I try to use other 3 domain names with parent/child  portal. When I point my domain name to the child portal directory "root/dotnetnuke/childPortal" (dotnetnuke is where in install DNN) and add http alias as www.mydomainname.com in DNN, DNN looking for App_Code directory in the child portal directory not in the DNN installed directory. That cause the error which cannot solve so far. 
      Any idea or suggest would be appreciated.

This may be something to do with GoDaddy,  I would check with their support to see if they will allow you to point additional domains to a DotNetNuke installation. On one of my hosting plans (not GoDaddy) I can do this easily by adjusting the host header settings, can you access the host header settings within your GoDaddy hosting plan?

Godaddy support staff try very hard to solve this problem, I see from the Site log that they work very hard on this problem in my site for many hours. I had forward your advice to him. I will let you know the result as soon as it fixed.

It work, at last Mr. Sean R Smith at Godaddy support did it for me but I don't know how to do that,  he is document the procedure for all the users.  http://www.noklek.com  .

Now Godaddy's customers can host the domain name by parent portal of the DNN which install in  sub directory.

I think  install DNN in the  sub directory is good as you can install more than one DNN installation.

Don't forget that with those plans you have only MSSQL 2000 available on godaddy and if you developed your own modules which use procedure with new features from MSSQL 2005 - you screwed you need to have MSSQL 2005 and you realize godaddy is not for you.

For my deluxe plan, I have 2 SQL Database which quite limited. I use both of them to install 2 DNN installation. If I need to develop the module I will my home PC for module developing but so far I never develope any module. I love the Godaddy support. The time they spend on my case worth more than years of hosting fee.
Godaddy is my first hosting company I have experience with. I can not say it is the best. But it is quite OK for me.

I had a good experience with DotNetNuke over Godaddy, now i can install DotNetNuke 4.5.1 to Godaddy Root Level, and host multiple sites.

I have used GoDaddy for 6 months for DNN and 5 years for web hosting. I am looking for another provider for several reasons:

• GoDaddy's unreasonable  permissions on the root directory make installation and updating DNN a huge pain. In my case I installed in /dnn and moved the files up one level have the instal was completed. Basiclly at GoDaddy you have 3 DNN choices.  1. Use their value application and have little or no control. 2. Install in a subdirectory (/dnn) and not be vued as a "site" by Google & Yahoo or Use Redirects and loose referrer info. 3. Go thru hoops to to the install and upgrades to have your site at root.
• GoDaddy's email system keeps blacklisting IP blocks of people who send me mail, such as Border's Books. You don't hear about the blocked mail at all.
• GoDaddy's quality of support has dropped greatly during the 6 month

I will be evaluating / trying other ISPs during the next week or two and you may see my comments added for other ISPs

I will be evaluating GoDaddy soon, simply because of the amount of storage / bandwidth they offer. The deluxe plan now offers 100GB of storage and a 1TB of bandwidth / month for little over $6!

- what are the disadvantages of using SQL 2000? Quite a lot of hosting providers use this as far as I can see. Can someone point me to a host that provides SQL 2005?

Bet you a buck you can't get DNN installed in the root within a week at Godaddy  

Lots of space is nice, but I just traded space for a DNN friendy provider, SQL Mgr access and pain-free backups and restores.

BTW When I left GD all new databases were SQL 2005.

Well, i am not a reseller of Godaddy, but i strongly suggest them if you have small budget.
I will update my Tutorials for DotNetNuke 4.5.3 installation to root.
MSSQL 2005 is better, for performance and reliability.

If you are rich, Discount ASP.NET is good choise, but they are expensive, support is cool.

I'm poor, so i need to continue with Godaddy, as i understand how to fight with them, no problem at all. Once i learn new things about Godaddy, i am sharing my experince with my visitors (http://www.mynetnuke.com for Global users)

Ok, thanks for all your advice! The last thing I want is a rubbish host...

Here's a quick background on my requirements:

I represent a series of churches in the UK, and we are looking to upgrade our websites one by one to add audio / video content amongst other things. For instance, for one church we wish to host 60 audio messages (15MB / message) totalling 900MB, and add 1 audio and 1 video message per week, (60MB / week). As you can see, our storage requirements will quickly reach several GB. We wish to add podcasting capability per site, and are thinking of purchasing licences for NukeSyndicate.

Now I doubt bandwidth will be that high. Its not YouTube, and the "audience" will be a small group of users. I was initially attracted to GoDaddy as they offered silly storage for a low price, however the more I hear about them the more Im thinking "stay away!"...

We don't have a lot of money, and would like to do this as cheaply as possible, however Im sure we could afford a few hundred $USD / year, especially with the awesome 2:1 £GB exchange rate

So, baring the above in mind, does anyone have any advice as to how I may achieve this?

I also have access to unlimited storage at fasthosts.co.uk, but no MSSQL. One idea I had was to host the DNN site(s) at the highly acclaimed IHostASP but have mass storage elsewhere, then develop a clever module that allows upload/download of content to the remote site thereby making this transparent to users / administrators.

Don't try to make things too complicated. Shop around and find one hosting company that can meet your DNN, storage and bandwidth requirements. If you deal with a host that actually knows DNN, that will be a great help if and when you have problems.
